I weight the issues of cost/complexity/frequency of use before I take on new software. I’ve generally avoided add-ons as I try to keep things as vanilla as possible to forestall problems. NameChanger is a free Mac program for bulk renaming of files. I have used it for normalizing many filenames (thousands at a time) from disparate sources, along with folder names. It’s a fantastically-capable batch processor. I think including the word ‘Finder’ in the app name makes it sound like it’s some sort of extension.
